Book of the Lodge While living in Oregon in the rain forest of Eugene, we celebrated creativity a number of times in the sweat we had there. This book started as a sweat lodge ceremony where each participant painted their faces with rich pigments. During the sweat the pigments melted off and each participant had a piece of cotton cloth. The cloths became covered with the pigments. Each cloth was then beaten into a paper pulp and sheet formed into pages. All the participants were gifted a page of grey paper. The pages left over went to create this unique book which honors the Lakota creation spirits with each folio. The folios are bound in a drum leaf binding. The book is not available for sale as it was created in ceremony and nothing within the sacred ceremonies can be sold for profit. The book is a gift for participants who wish to understand more deeply what our community shares together in sacred spaces.
